Day 6 of New York fashion week just happened to fall on Valentine’s Day. Fr0m the street style photos I’ve seen, bloggers and editors are taking full advantage of the holiday by wearing bright pinks and deep reds. Between last night’s Grammy Awards and yesterdays fashion week shows, yesterday Twitter was buzzing with excitement. Unfortunately, I was tethered at home with a sick husband, but it did afford me the excuse to stay glued to Twitter all day. Yesterday was a flurry of shows including the much anticipated DKNY show, DVF, Monique Lhullier, Lela Rose and Tommy Hilfiger. The day ended with the Bloglovin’ Awards, which honors the top fashion blogs on the web.

While I’m not in NYC experiencing all of the action, it does feel like this Fashion Week is flying by. Yesterday I was glued to the screen scrolling through photos from Jill Stuart, Prabal Gurung, Mara Hoffman, Herve Leger and, my favorite, Rachel Zoe. Best of Fashion Week Fall 2012 – The Beginning

I have never been lucky enough to attend New York Fashion Week. But in this day and age I’m lucky enough to be able to follow the events online. From Twitter to Livestream and now Instagram and Pinterest I’m able to get a taste of what it would be like to be at the shows. I’m always inspired by not only the show and studio shots, but also photos of the parties and street style. So, for the third season in a row, I’m bringing you a “best-of Fashion Week” straight from my own living room in Portland. Enjoy!

The unofficial first day of New York Fashion Week started off with IFBCon, put on Independent Fashion Bloggers. I was able to catch most of the live stream, which was great because there was a ton of good advice. Check out my live tweeting session of highlights on Twitter.

DIY Valentine’s Decor

Every once in a while I get a bit of crafty inspiration. Today it hit me again. This simple DIY is perfect for a little Valentine’s Day vignette.

First, take an empty mason jar. I found this one at an antique store last weekend. It has been sitting on my mantle, waiting for something to make it pop.

Second I took some roses that were wilting. This works with roses from the garden or fresh roses from the store. I got these for my birthday last week and they have seen better days.

Next gently pull the rose petals from the stems. Be careful not to rip them (though it isn’t a huge deal if you do). Fill the jar with the rose petals.

Screw the lid back on and you have yourself a lovely little piece of Valentine’s inspired decor. I put the jar right back on the mantle, but it would look great on a shelf or as a center piece.

While Valentine’s is a great day to celebrate your relationship with your S.O., it is also a day to send your love to all of the people you care about in your life. So pick up the phone and call your mom, best friend, college roommate, whoever. Just don’t forget to say “I love you.”

One of the things that seems to happen every year is that the weeks following the holidays I go on a shopping spree. The stress of the holidays are over, holiday bonuses are in the checking account and online sales are running rampant. It’s hard not to go a little crazy.

This year I was looking for some specific things. I needed a new case for my iPad, a new wallet and some art for my very white walls. I did some shopping around, and here is what I ended up purchasing:

iPad Clutch – Asos, $36

Rebecca Minkoff Wallet - Gilt, $90

Letterpress Print- Heartfish Press, $12.50

So far I am loving all three items. The clutch is huge! I could easily fit 2 iPads in there. The wallet is great for Spring and the art print hangs over my desk, keeping me motivated.
